Well the Snapper are still biting in the Harbour and out west at most of the usual spots, shallow and deep.
Surfcasting has been pretty good in Palliser bay and in patches around the harbour but a bit tough out west particularly on the Kapiti coast. We have seen pretty good snapper off the beach through winter, particularly at Tehoro, so fingers crossed this year for more of the same or better?
Some nice kingis are getting caught at the harbour entrance and on local and offshore reefs. this is the best time for kingis on the south coast (once the swell goes away).
A few nice moki have been caught at Longbeach, Wainui and Whangamoana.
Tarakihi fishing seems to be improving this season.
Hopefully the kahawai will turn up in numbers soon. the last few days in Evan's bay have been 'kahawai chaos'
The Trench has been providing the odd big bluenose and some good puka fishing from places like Karori and Ohau, Fishermans and the Brothers
boat hot spots - Falcon shoal, 50mtr wreck (sth coast), Makara and Boom (50-70mtrs), Hunters (50-80mtrs), Kapiti north (just about everywhere)
shore hot spots - Seatoune, Eastborne, Ocean beach to Whangamoana, Otaki and northwards, Makara beach, Boom.

Wow, the fishing is going off! We are certainly in the peak of the great Wellington fishing summer. March/April is probably the best time of the year to fish for snapper, kingfish, hapuku, kahawai and various gamefish species like tuna and marlin. Unprecedented fishing in new places has been the theme this year. Some of the hot spots - Seatoun beach for landbased kingi and snapper. Out wide from Mana northwards for albacore tuna (heaps around), marlin (about 8 caught so far). Plus mahi mahi and even some possible short-billed spearfish. Palliser bay (surfcasting moki and snapper) Falcon shoal (harbour boatfishing) for snaps and kings Raumati (snapper surfcasting) The season has been one of the best on record but has had also been running red hot one day and stone cold the next, particularly trying to get onto the snapper. They have been spooked by temp contrasts and have been potentially doing a bit of spawning as well which has made them tricky to catch at times Its been such a pleasure to see many new anglers catch their first moki, snapper, kingfish, tuna etc this season. Good luck with your fishing folks We are happy to help with tackle, bait, advice, charters, especially for new anglers

7.2.25

2 - 3 striped marlin have been caught out form Foxton with a few hooked around Kapiti as well. Plenty or albacore tuna out wide on the west too.

With improved weather and the la-ninya patern, things have improved particularly for boaties. the snap have come back on the cxhew a bit with good catches reported off the shore and in the boat,. the harbour is going off, kingis, snaps and other stuff too.

20.1.25

finally an improvement in the weather. The snapper are starting to come back on the feed out west from makara northwards.

Surfcasters have been seeing some good snapper fishing on the kapiti coast now as well.

Landbased kingi acrion in the harbour has been pretty good with many catches between 10-20kgs around evans bay, oriental bay, seatoun and the hutt river entrance.

when the wind drops theres been good hapuku fishing and some good ones in shallow water too (15kg fish in 50-60mtrs)

boatfishing around falcon shoal has been really good on snapper recently.

some good moki have been caught at ocean beach, wainui coast and around scorching bay and kau bay in the harbour.

At the moment there are plenty of hapuku around in the deep with snapper, trevally, tarakihi and gurnard inshore and most other species mixed in for good measure.

On a 6hr trip we can go south to Makara or north to Hunters bank and sometimes out wide for hapuku. Its generally an inshore fishing trip but we are happy to go deep if everyone on board is keen.

Our 4hr trips are mainly around Mana island and Pukerua bay. There's good numbers of snapper, trevally, tarakihi and gurnard with the odd kingfish, jd and blue mackerel as well
